A new review by researchers at The Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital – The Neuro, McGill University, MUHC, University of Montreal, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and the University of Toronto compares the latest research and assessment tests and presents new clinical guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and return-to-play, to work or to school decisions for concussed athletes.

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians who are just one step away from being homeless are dealing with the same devastating health risks as people living on the streets, according to new research.
Mental illness, hunger and chronic health issues such as arthritis and hepatitis are just as prevalent among the “vulnerably housed” as among the homeless, research by a network of academics, doctors and community workers suggests.

Dr. Kirsty Duncan calls on the government to create a National Brain Health Education and Awareness Month
OTTAWA – Dr. Kirsty Duncan, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North, tabled her Private Member’s Bill today, which calls on the government to designate March of every year “National Brain Health Education and Awareness Month”.
“Designating a month for brain awareness would encourage Canadians to learn how to nurture a healthy brain, and help recognize individuals and families that have been adversely affected by brain disorders, as well as raise national awareness about brain disorders and injuries,” said Dr. Duncan.
“Five million Canadians and their families are living with a neurological disease, disorder or injury today”, said Dr. Duncan. “If the brain is not working, then every part of life can be compromised.”

An interesting video on mTBI as seen through the eyes of the military but could be applied to many similar incidents in sport and car crashes.
Medical and sports professionals gathered in Montreal Saturday, for a day-long seminar aimed at shining some light on the importance of recognizing and treating concussions.
“There have been so many serious, serious head injuries — not only to professional athletes, but primarily young children. So we need to create this awareness of just how serious these injuries are,” sport psychologist Paul Dennis said.
According to emergency room physician Dr. Scott Delaney, anyone participating in contact sports must pay close attention to how they feel afterwards.
