CVHIS Call for Abstracts for the 17th Annual G & B Johnson Brain Injury Conference on June 17th and 18th 2010 at the Best Western in Courtenay, BC.

The conference will focus on providing support for survivors, caregivers and family members as they deal with common struggles faced post injury including depression, addiction, and homelessness. With this theme it is our hope to address children and youth as it is a very prevalent need within our community.

The International Brain Injury Association (IBIA) will hold its 8th World Congress March 10 – 14, 2010 in Washington, DC.

IBIA brings together the largest group of international professionals working in the field of brain injury to learn, share experiences and socialize, as well as recognize outstanding contributions to the field of brain injury care. Delegates are comprised of physicians, psychologists and neuropsychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses, case managers, legal professionals, advocates and all others working in the field of brain injury. The Eighth World Congress program features internationally recognized invited speakers, platform lectures, workshops, short oral presentations and poster sessions. The 2010 meeting set a new IBIA record with over 650 abstracts submitted from around the world. State of the art research will be presented dealing with information spanning from basic science to clinical (coma to community) aspects of brain injury. International priorities in the field of brain injury research will be discussed. IBIA will also have a number of exciting, state of the art, pre-Congress symposia, as well as post-Congress workshop sessions to further enhance the attendee didactic experience. Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Challenges and Controversies in Treatment Conference

This conference will focus on the challenges and controversies surrounding the treatment of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI). It is the second in a series of leading-edge and interactive conferences that explore the management of this complex condition. Health, insurance and legal professionals who work with mild traumatic brain-injured clients are encouraged to attend this compelling and practical one-day conference. Prominent Canadian and International experts will lead participants in interactive sessions to explore current evidence, best practice and treatment models in use within the mTBI population.

In addition to keynote and workshop sessions, this conference will offer delegates an opportunity to collaboratively build a treatment plan based upon actual cases and current evidence. Delegates will then hear how their treatment plan is evaluated In light of current practice, by an expert Insurer examination panel, who represent the legal, insurance and medical fields.

Overall Learning Objectives:

* Will have reviewed the wide range of controversies and challenges in the treatment of mild traumatic brain injury
