Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
Clinician Scientist, Acquired Brain Injury

Shorten the time from research discovery to the children who need it.

Creating a world of possibilities for kids with disability is much more than a vision at Holland Bloorview. It’s an urgent daily personal goal for every talented staff member and dedicated volunteer who works at this specialized teaching hospital. Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital pioneers treatments, technologies, therapies and real-world programs that give children with disabilities the tools to participate fully in life. Holland Bloorview serves about 7,000 children each year through 600 inpatient admissions and 58,000 outpatient visits.

Funded largely by the Holland Family Endowment, this new position offers the opportunity to build a research program that directly influences clinical care for kids with acquired brain injuries (ABI). With the largest cohort of ABI patients in Canada, the program at Holland Bloorview is advanced, acclaimed and high profile. You will define the role by driving the agenda of new knowledge and capacity building in ABI. Working in partnership with academic, clinical and research affiliates, clients and families, you and your team will collaborate locally, nationally and internationally with research pacesetters in the field of paediatric acquired brain injury.

In this leadership role, you will join a vibrant culture as you engage and lead your staff in clinical care and applied clinical research. With a commitment to leading practices in teaching and research, you will develop and promote performance indicators that measure transformation in care. Reporting jointly to the Vice-President, Medical and Academic Affairs and Vice-President, Research at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, you’ll expand a provincial program that serves children and youth from across Ontario. Serve as an ambassador for Holland Bloorview in the development and implementation of evidence-informed care and the development of collaborative research partnerships both internally and externally.

An MD or PhD, you are a senior-level clinician scientist with ABI experience and specialty certification in paediatric neurology, developmental paediatrics, neuropsychology or paediatric physiatry. With internationally recognized academic credentials, appointments and awards, you have firmly established your research credibility. You must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Holland Bloorview is committed to creating an endowed chair in Paediatric ABI jointly with the University of Toronto, and it is anticipated that, in this new role, you will become the inaugural holder of this chair.

The University of Toronto and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital are strongly committed to diversity within their community and especially welcome applicants from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups and others who may contribute to further diversification of ideas. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
